  • Orchids, I think, on a dead tree trunk

I found these growing on a dead and rotting tree trunk at Eagleby Wetlands. I couldn't see any leaves but didn't have a good view as they were a metre or more above head height.

    G'day Alan

I'm no help with botanical items, so all I can offer is 'looks good to my eye - incl the insect as seen in #2'
From the appearance of the white 'fronds' / 'petals' ? vs the bokeh from the background, it seems that you are still enjoying using your beaut long-lens for closeups !

Thanks Phil. Yep 500mm lens, but this was a couple of metres up a tree. I only use it for close-ups when it's all I have with me.

I'm the same ... except my one and only lens is the 'long' lens so I do heaps of this sort of pic

Yes, but yours is not fixed at 500mm with a 3m minimum focus distance, so mine isn't ideal. Zoom lenses are certainly much more convenient.

They're just lovely photos Alan. I'm a bit of a flower fan and these are one of the reasons why. Lovely framing and presentation. Then long lenses do great close up shots with good bokeh, as you know.

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

Thanks Isac. I should have taken some longer shots too. It looked like the top of this old dead tree was bursting into flower

It's good to see that even a dead tree can play its part in providing beauty in nature.
