Huntsman

I had cut down a dead tree trunk and cut it into short lengths. When I went to pick up this piece, this spider ran into view. I tried to nudge it off but it refused to leave. I grabbed the camera and took a couple of shots. I would have liked to get a front-on close-up but it wouldn't cooperate.

Yeah - they do like trees and the hollows with bark. Your pics then are probably the best one could expect under the circumstances

Friendly little things. They love the share the inside of our house with us. The last one I escorted outside bit me. I have never been bitten by one before and their bite hurts I can tell you.

I haven't seen any in our house for a while. I don't pick them up but use a container and piece of light card to move them

I remember seeing a photo on Facebook, of a boy of about 10 with one on his face. It said he picked them all the time and they sometimes bit him but "it didn't hurt that much". I'm not convinced.

I've been bitten once in 30+ years. They bite but there is no sting so its just s harp nip. That's all.

Wonderful shot Alan, quite common and harmless but their size does give the heeb jeebys to many. Bit of trivia, this one is the Brown Huntsman spider (Heteropoda jugulans).
