You must tread very softly K1W1, lyrebirds are not usually seen by the public let alone photographed. Well done with whatever gear you had with you.

There were 6 in total. A fourth adult walked across the track from left to right in the background and there were two moe one on either side of the track on the left you can just see (where the sign is). They were unusually happy. The two young ones went into the bush on the right stayed about two metres into the bush then came out on the track again behind where I was standing. It was too dark to get a decent shot with anything other than a fast lens. This was a 33mm (Picture cropped) at f2.8 1/60 sec iso 400.

Good to get a pic, no matter the gear. I've decided that my 18-400 is all I need for when I'm out and about. I haven't used another lens for a long time.I Shoot A Canon

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

To follow on from both K1W1 and Isac re- lenses and 'with or without' ....
Yep - back in my SLR days I had heaps of occasions when I was in the 'right place with the wrong body or lens'
It is one of the many reasons thatI have abandoned SLRs and gone for the fixed-lens superzoom cameras of today ... all the operational features of an SLR and -as Isac gloates- one lens does just about everything needed
As the largest print I am currently doing are 24-inch wide panos, the small sensor copes very nicely for me and I am quite happy with the results I get
