  • A couple of insects

Not finding many birds yesterday, I turned the camera on a couple of insects. The 500mm f/5.6 is the best at this as the minimum focus distance is not good, so these a fairly heavy crops.

    1. Butterfly. This worked better than I expected

    2. Dragonfly. It kept landing on the ground so the background is cluttered.

I'd be happy with the butterfly also Alan, nice and sharp and the background really suits. You're right about the dragonfly image being cluttered, but they are difficult to capture in flight.

Thanks John. I was hoping the dragonfly would land on a twig or grass stem, but it wouldn’t cooperate.

They rarely do, but when they do it's a bonus.

Beautiful butterfly shot Alan - vibrant colours and lovely patterns on the wings. Good BG that makes it pop. Just a bit of light peaking through the top of the wings is a bonus.
The dragonflies are never easy to get with a nice BG so patience is required

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.
