  • Bats & more bats but no wickets being scored

    G'day all

Near my camp site is a fruit-bat colony - maybe 100,000 of the blighters - the noise & smell is something to behold
For 1/2- hour yesterday I stood in the middle of them and watched them fly around and around and around. Here's some of them

    1)

    2)

    3)

    4)

    5)

At the moment I'm too close to them to choose a 'best' - so your feedback is most welcome
    Phil

All great images Phil. Are you sure there's not just one bat that you keep photographing , a group shot would be a great image.

Something special for you Phil. Lovely images, colours are fabulous. Funny how they were all flying right to left

Great set of shots Phil. #3 is a favourite for me, I love how the backlighting shows the bones of the arms and fingers, good stuff.
          Cheers, Brad.

Hi fellas ... they were all coming in to land on the tree to the left of frame. I have also got quite a few going 'rightwards' but for them mostly all I've got is bums

Nice series Phil. I've tried to photograph these guys overhead before and found it quite difficult. They move quicker than you expect and tend to dart around a lot rather than fly straight.

                G'day fellas

The location of the shoot is Tabulum in northern NSW - and the bats are roosting in trees along a 1km stretch of river. The road bridge cuts thru the middle of the 1km roost, so it's ezy pezy to stand on the bridge and you're up at tree top height. It makes it so much easier

We're here till Saturday .... anyone nearby wanna come up / down / across for an outing??
