  • Pretty but Invasive Weed

    Coastal Morning Glory (Ipomoea cairica)

There is quite a bit of this at Eagleby Wetlands where I often go. No action on the bird side so I turned my camera on the flowers. It grows rapidly, climbing over and smothering native plants.

It is pretty. Shame we have a lot of introduced species that do that.

Thanks Toddy. Yes there plenty of other examples.

Pretty indeed. Well framed and exposed Alan.
Yes the weeds are certainly a curse, the worst one I have here is the Singapore Daisy, it has taken over sections of the creek banks, I try to keep it under control on my patch, but some of the neighbors just let it go, which makes it harder for the ones that do try to control it. Lantana is another one, I have gotten rid of 90% of it on my block, just a few inaccessible spots left.
    Cheers, Brad.

Thanks Brad. I had Singapore Daisy trying to take over my largish suburban block a couple of years ago. I have it under control now, but still regularly find new shoots to remove.

Lovely shot and good detail wigz. Perhaps it is sometimes a good thing when there are no birds about

Thanks Isac. Good point. I know that I tend to focus on the main objective of the outing and probably miss lots of other good opportunities.

Lovely light. It is a native somewhere. Reminds me of the time I found they were growing Lantana in a hothouse in London after I spent days cleaning it out of a building block near Wollongong.

Thanks Hans. A weed is just a plant growing where it's not wanted.
