This one most obligingly posed for me Friday morning. One of the largest I have seen and less colourful than some. Both with D800 and Sigma 120-300 + 1.4 TC

A couple of fantastic images there Alan, reptiles are a much more obliging than birds, they just want to bask in the sun.
I see that you are using Sigma glass and you seem to be getting great results from it. What results do you get at 300 wide open, and what have you found to be the "sweet spot".
I have nothing but Sigma glass, except for a Tamron 70-300 that I bought when I first got back in to photography. I also have a Sigma 70-200.

Do you manual focus when using the TC's, or do you let the auto focus do it's thing?
I know what you mean about the $ factor, unless you are a pro selling your work to magazines it's hard to justify.

Always autofocus John. I can't manual focus well enough or quickly enough at any distance.

Both great Alan. Could you lift the shadow in #1? Get some more detail from the neck?

Thanks Toddy. Probably, I hadn't bothered because it's such a small area but I'll give it a go.

Wonderful shots and I like the portrait showing the great detail.

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.
