A shower works wonders

At last we got a decent shower of rain to show off some of the neighbours climbers encroaching through the fence.
I've been playing around with an extension tube on a Macro lens. and a small fill in flash, trying something different that I have neglected doing for a long time.

When I saw the thread title, I was reminded of one of my wife's recent remarks about me ...

Of the 3 images I prefer #1 for its darker background that is consistant across the whole frame, and thus separates subject from background

Insofar as your camera work goes - your lighting is spot on well done
You say that you're using an 'extension tube on a macro lens' but the image appears not to be an extreme closeup, so I am left wondering whether the lens/tube combo is actually doing much for you

Q- what focal length + how much tube was used here?

[fwiw, I have many years of film-camera experience with tubes and close-up lenses on both prime & zoom from 24mm to 300mm over a wide variety of subjects]

Thanks for your remarks I was using a prime 100mm f2.8 Cannon lens and the Extension tube was EF12. look forward to hearing any hints or tips you may have .Cheers & Thanks Gordon.

I do like them Gordon, you seem to have nailed the lighting. I would suggest a few edits though (only IMHO). When you have small parts of plants on the edge of the frame, try removing part of them. I've done 1 to show what I mean, I hope you don't mind.
