Portrait suits - crop is just a bit tight, imho.

Black b/g isolates the subject nicely. I can't see the exif data, but the dof looks very shallow.

Flowers are good subjects to practice on as they don't move and you can just go out and buy a bunch of beautiful models whenever the mood takes you

For some reason if the picture was reversed(?) it would flow in the same direction as we read, and it scores better.
