  • For the Poodle and dog people of the forum.

Last weekend our local rescue where I walk the dogs YAPS (Young Animal Protection Society) had a fundraiser organised by a lovely lady a few suburbs away in Palm Cove. It was the 1st Palm Cove Annual Dog Show and Fun day. Anyway it was a great turn out, I went with Barkley the beautiful natured Bull Arab x who awaits at YAPS until a family comes to adopt him. I have walked him many a time over the months and he was such a well behaved boy in the back of the car with Eve.
Anyhoooo ... there were alsorts of breeds from the Toy Poodle, to Standard Poodle, Pomeranian, Jack Russells, Maltese Terrier, Shihtzu's, Labradoodle, Groodle, Newfoundland. It was great to see. Now there was a darling little Toy Poodle named Hazel and she was such a spirited girl and Eve and I adored her. She is in a few photos with Eve but also the money shot with my little p&s that morning was of Hazel standing on her back legs checking out the ch7 cameraman with his camera. It was a well organised event with a few ex YAPS dogs there as well and I am sure there will be one next year too.

The one with the Shihtzu and lady wearing green being the 'mad hatters' won equal first place for best dressed with the lady and dog in yellow being bumble bees (the dog ex YAPS).

Here is the collage I have done with little Hazel .. but go and check out my other collages from the morning.

Just had a look at your Flickr. What a great day and series of photos.

I'm biased, but the poodle still steals the show - I'd take Hazel home any day (don't tell our 3 though).

You do a wonderful job and it must be so rewarding, but also so heart-breaking at times. I'm surprised you don't have a house full of animals.

Million Paws Walk coming up here soon.

Our poodles are loving being close to the beach, (but very sad that we had to put Angas, our German Coolie, down recently).

    Enjoy them while you can

    Cheers

the lady who organised the event, Rhonda Henderson, she said when she moved to Cairns because she had a dog, the first people she met were those with dogs and that was the case with me here and in WA.

Anyway, I am at peace with the fact that the dogs and cats are in a good place until they find a home. It would be soul destroying if YAPS were a place that euthanised so thankfully they don't so I have no need to bring them all home lol.

Yes we have the Million Paws Walk up her too. Last year a YAPS volunteer walked her dogs in it wearing a YAPS tshirt so I am womdering if I should walk a YAPS dog wearing my YAPS tshirt lol.

Sorry to hear about your Coolie, I don't remember seeing him in photos, what was his ailment? Heartbreaking as it is, at least your Poodles were there to help pick you up.

        Hello Anna,

Charles says that these are a wonderful series and show what a wonderful day it surely was.

But he is deluded, as usual. There are some great photos (the ones with poodles) while the rest are rubbish. Alan has this problem too. Some of his photos are brilliant, and the rest are rubbish.

Keep trying Anna. Just run your work past me, and I'll put you on the right track.

        Bella

My indecision is final, I think.

A great series of photos Anna and so bright and colourful. Looks like everyone had a marvellous time. My sons joked when I started volunteering with the RSPCA as to how long before I brought another dog home. Answer 1 day. First day I drove the van I had to collect 3 dogs from the Council pound, one of which was a lab. He's now a much loved member of our household. But two dogs are enough.

Because YAPS is a no kill shelter I am ok not to bring home all the dogs and cats lol ..The pound up here works with the shelters and registered foster groups so it's a good system but soooo many dogs are 'entire' that end up at the pound due to escaping their yard. I am always gobsmacked at that each week.
