have been inspired by Daren with lighting expertise, so I have been using flash with some of my shots..mind you I am no even in his league but fun to try.

Fun to try but not easy to get that balance right, particularly when the sun is bright. (I'm a poet and don't know it)!
I find High speed sync is a help, but while I seem to be able to get it right most of the time underwater in low light, I do struggle to get decent results topside. Always seem to hit the subject or surrounds a bit too hard with flash and by the time you compensate for it.. the subject's gone!
I quite like your top shot, while it's a bit busy it's hard to tell that you've used fill as there's still a bit of natural shadow there.
