  • Air Brakes on coming into Land

I know its the wrong end, but I was fascinated by the way the bird seemed to be using its feathers to slow down coming into land. Captured this shot at a Raptor exhibition in a small Safari Park near Stirling. Click image for larger version

That would have to be the most interesting bird in flight photo I've seen. The feathers are like a whole series of flaps. If you had managed to get the entire bird in, it would have been one heck of a photo. Is that a radio transmitter on his tail?

Very interesting feathers, and I agree it would be a WOW shot had the whole bird been in the frame.

        Looks very nice.
Love the mix of strong feathers with the fluffyness of the body feathers!!

Yes birds of prey are grouped together as Raptors, Owls are a basically a Raptor. They had several different birds on display flying around an amphitheatre un tethered. It was quite interesting to watch, got a few shots of the owl. If you ever manage to get up to Alice Springs they have a really good display on at Desert Park. Last time we were there, which was several years ago they had a Wedge Tailed Eagle, and also a few Kites.

Thanks, I've been to the one at Currumban and that was pretty interesting. Struggled to get any decent shots though.
