Male and Female Birdwing

I am thrilled to have seen these in our front yard. My Jess came home and said 'mum come and look at this' and she pointed over to the bushes at the fence. I quickly ran to get my camera because there were three butterflies. Two male Birdwings (thanks to my neighbour who shortly after walked by with his dogs and he told me they were the males) were hovering around the female Birdwing. The males being the pretty green and the female being much larger, the size of a Willy Wagtail in flight and of course not as pretty.

Those wings in #1 are stunning Anna - lucky you to have a spotter in the form of Jess. The wings of the female may not be as colourful but she still has some lovely colours in her body.

Thank you for the comments, I have had some good feedback on a fb group about the green one .. For something that didn't stop moving it is amazing it turned out so well. Room for improvement, definitely.
