  • Egret after and before

Inspired by Mick's recent Egret Edit, I found a shot from 2011 that I thought might be worth playing with.

    Well worth playing with!

Generally when a bird is flying away it's time to put the camera down but this image works a treat. It's the little things that make or break an image for me and here I see lots of little things to like.

The head turn as the egret peels right to the empty space, if the egret was looking straight ahead the images dies. The empty space created by the lack of reeds on the right, the image just wouldn't work as well if the reeds went all across the frame. Lovely form of the egret, such a graceful bird in flight. Soft gentle light and excellent detail, especially the wings. Excellent composition and processing.

It's all there in the cropped version but lost in the original.

Thanks for sharing this gem Alan.
