Good series Greg with the last being the strongest, always great to capture a bird with prey.
Well done for not spooking these two and getting the shots, I've found herons to be very flighty and hard to get close to.
Btw, one of the best bird images I've ever taken (imo) recieved exactly one comment and an image (non-bird) which I considered to be the best image I'd captured up to that point full stop recieved exactly zero comment.
I post my images with no expectations, that way I'm never disappointed. YMMV.

Question everything ~ Christopher Hitchins
Nice series showing habitat and behaviour, Greg. Esp with the kit lens - careful, you'll start lusting after longer and faster glass - it's a slippery slope
Last one for me too. Purists might prefer the bird to be turned towards the camera more
I don't visit the Bird Forum, but just read New Posts. So if I'm away in the van, or there has been a largish number of posts by many people, (or by one person starting many topics) it's possible for a post to drop off the front page and I miss it. (Not that I reply to every post I read)
As Mick says - same thing happens to me - what I consider to be one of my better shots can quietly depart the scene.

Thanks guys, please excuse my tardiness from my previous post.
I was pretty excited to get this series of shots, and for me they were pretty special. You would know by now that I pretty much have a go at everything and don't really specialise in anything.
I caught sight of these birds out of the corner of my eye while bike riding, (there were a couple of ducks there as well). Dumped my bike about 20 metres up the track and crept back through the bushes trying not to disturb them.
Felt quite rewarded to be able to record the little hunting session and naturally couldn't wait to share it with you lot on line.
Alan, I have a better lens but didn't have it with me, and don't usually carry it on the bike. The 18-135 Sony lens is my quick 'go to' lens and I'm pretty happy with what I can get with it.
Pity how some of our 'best' work goes un-noticed though.
Not an easy solution especially with a limited amount of people using this forum at the moment. Find the same thing with other forums. 80+ lookers at times and no-one bothering to say anything!
I fear what CC said before ducking out the door is pretty right though. Lack of response to one's posts is probably the major turn off for members.
We need more Julies I think. She went out of her way to seek out low response posts and always had something constructive to say. We miss her!
Nice work Greg. Getting two of these characters in frame is quite an achievement. I'm happy to sneak up within a Km of one of these.
The last one is my favorite too. A very special capture. (No pun intended!)
I agree, the slow response here can be disappointing. But don't forget, our numbers are small compared with some forums. As I type this, 11 people are on-line, 2 of them members! And that's about average. Looking at an American photography forum with the initials FM, it has 4077 people on-line!!
It's people like you, Greg, that keep this place going. Hang in there!!
Now this is the other problem I have, (at the risk of sounding like a broken record) - I've had no notification you'd replied to me or your post Greg, and your reply had already disappeared off the front page (for me anyway) - pure chance I looked at page two - sorry, if you don't hear from me more often
I didn't realise that was the reason that Col left but I feel his pain

Alan, this is a problem. But all the big buttons have been pushed and the boxes ticked, but it just doesn't work!!
