You'll just have to eat pumpkin flowers instead of pumpkins

They are attractive flowers. Worth photographing. Some closeups would be interesting.

So umm how do you tell if it's a male, does it have testicles hidden somewhere ? or does it just flower instead of producing a little pumpkin ?

        Don't pull them out

It is normal for pumpkin vines to start with male flowers only. Hopefully in a couple of weeks the female flowers will start to come.

Have grown pumpkins for years. This is the first time I've not had small pumpkins on the vines by mid February and no sign of any coming. If for some reason they are just late, it will be too late for them to develop properly before the cold weather starts. I wont waste water on them. Just plant something else.

No balls on the boys, you get a little 'ball' on the base of the girls which grows to be a pumpkin after it's been pollinated. I quite enjoy going around the crop 'doing the deed' of putting the male bits into the female flowers to ensure pollination happens. (Or is this too much information)!
