Nice shot. They are quite the characters aren't they. Protective like any other parent of their offspring. Looks like something sharp is poking through just at the beginning of the black near the wing.

That's the spur, it's on both wings just at the elbow joint. It was called a Spurwing Plover before the change to Lapwing. No idea why it was changed.
