Better a full bottle in front of me
    than a full frontal lobotomy.

    G'day Hans

Two quite different pics here - from the clouds it seems on different days too - but 'what a difference the drone makes'
Playing with #2 + the scroll bar on my screen, to hide the lower half of the scene, the upper half becomes a very dramatic pano showing the wide open ocean + beach.
I'd like to have it stretching across my lounge room wall ... Fabulous !!
    I like 'em both too

You are correct and I agree with what you suggest. The first picture was taken on a very overcast day and I went back the next day when it was sunny

The first looks good as a pano as well when I remove the sky with thirds rule.

Beautiful shots. Those skies in the first one are quite foreboding. I love the colors in the second image and I think the original, uncropped version, is my favorite. That leading lines created by that river and the shoreline take my eye on a nice adventure through the image.

Thanks David. I do like the spiral effect but it does seem to be a little in two parts.

Both wonderful photos Hans - great framing and colour. That punchy sky in #1 brings it to life. The processing is great. Any tricks you want to share? Would look fabulous behind the reception counter of a luxurious hotel. Obviously the 2 receptionists are delighted with your work! Click image for larger version

I just fired myself from cleaning my house.
I don't like my attitude and I caught myself drinking on the job.

Curves is probably the most used tool in my photo colour grading process. It's great for adding contrast and shifting colours to get a good balance and also to change the mood of an image - like adding warmth or coolness. I use the AUTO curves a lot for colour correction too and have my default AUTO curves set to Find Dark & Light Colors, Snap Neutral Midtones checked.
Here's a good tutorial on using curves.

It must be fun with the drone Hans. It gives us a birds eye view and completely different to how we'd see it. Needs a boost using an "S" curve

I don't think it will get used for anything as I made my pick the second one. But agreed it would look better.

I like the very dramatic feel to #1. In #2 I think the buildings at bottom left and the bridge and road at right tend to distract from the rest of the image so I do like the cropped version better - or perhaps you could hit the distractions with the remove tool.
