  • N.I. No place for a safe landing

    G'day all

With rocky foreshores aplenty, landing onto Norfolk Island is a hazardous activity
Quite unable to be undertaken here, the waves then look more like the proverbial washing machine

    exif- Panny FZ-2500; 1/1600s x F4,0; ISO-125; lens at 2x zoom / 60mm FFequiv

    As always, feedback welcome

I think this is a great landscape no sorry seascape shot. And that washing machine looking like you would really come off second best trying to get through it.

Excellent shot Phil. Quite the wave action going on.

It really is a treacherous coastline and has seen many shipwrecks. Here's a few that have been on postage stamps from N.I.
HMS Sirius (19th March, 1790) The flagship of 11 ships in "The First Fleet".
        Diocet (20th April, 1873)
        Friendship (17th May, 1835)
        Mary Hamilton (6th May, 1873)
        Fairlie, (14th February, 1840)
        Warrigal (18th March, 1918)

I do have an interest in this stuff Phil. It all makes for interesting reading. Times were very tough back then and we seem to take modern ways for granted. I had a great rapport with Charles Christian-Bailey who was our N.I. agent for many years, who sold and installed our water tanks,
