It really is a treacherous coastline and has seen many shipwrecks. Here's a few that have been on postage stamps from N.I.
HMS Sirius (19th March, 1790) The flagship of 11 ships in "The First Fleet".
Diocet (20th April, 1873)
Friendship (17th May, 1835)
Mary Hamilton (6th May, 1873)

I do have an interest in this stuff Phil. It all makes for interesting reading. Times were very tough back then and we seem to take modern ways for granted. I had a great rapport with Charles Christian-Bailey who was our N.I. agent for many years, who sold and installed our water tanks,
