  • An exercise in stitching

Modern photography software is so good it never ceases to amaze me. We have come so far even in the last 4 or 5 years.
This was just an exercise in pano stitching it is not a photo I have spent any time editing its not worth that. This is 8 shots taken in portrait mode hand held at 55mm with a 55-200 lens. No particular car was taken to align the Images or keep the exposure constant I just really wanted to see what I assumed would be the obvious stitch errors in the complex scene. I was staggered. Highlight all 8 images in Lightroom select merge to Panorama and the result 30 seconds later was this. I have not found any obvious errors I'm sure there are some but for an essentially on click effort I think its impressive.

    G'day mate

Agreed - the pano-creating abilities of 'generic' software have come along way over the last decade
Some time back I received an email from my pano software mob saying that they were ceasing business and retiring, as 'other modern software' was now offering pano opportunities bundled within larger product ... and it seems you have found this to be the case

I think the improvement in computing power within desktop PCs has had a lot to do with how good these products are today.
Back in the 386 days we used to show people how it “only” took 45 seconds to open the train raster image in Corel Draw as opposed to about 3-4 minutes on a 286. Today that same image would open instantly.

        Yeah ... but

My old PS Elements on the Win-7 Toshiba opened in 13 seconds
My new PS Elements on the Win-10 HP takes 63 seconds to open
