  • Eastern Macdonnell Ranges of Central Australia (1)

    G'day all

These ranges, formed millions of years ago, run east-west across the centre of Australia with Alice Springs township in the middle. Millions of years of sedimentary rock formation has been uplifted into photographically wonderful shapes

1)- the upthrust seen here is about 250metres (measured vertically) from bottom to top

    exif- Panny FZ-2500; 1/500s x F6,3; ISO-125; lens at 3x zoom / 60mm FFequiv

2)- the rock canyons formed along the way extend for many kilometres

    exif- Panny FZ-2500; 1/160s x F6,3; ISO-125; lens at 4x zoom / 105mm FFequiv

    As always, feedback welcome
    Phil

So far the western side of the ranges has been the most photogenic place I have been in Oz. Looking forward to more Phil. I think I would crop the top to where the shade starts in #2 great colours in the bush up that way.
Better a full bottle in front of me
    than a full frontal lobotomy.

Lovely colours in these Phil. Shadows lift in #2 show some wonderful patterns in the rock face. This type of harsh lighting would be a good opportunity to test out some bracketing shots

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

        G'day mate

Yeah - you're right re- shadows lifting -but- I like the contrast where the shadows remain dark thus emphasising the leaves in the trees alongside

Wonderful shots and looking at them I now wonder if my body would get me up to the ridge to take a few shots.
I doubt it but then again being pigheaded I might make it and suffer after but to get shots like this it would be worth it.
      Thanks for posting these Phil.

Wonderful colour and textures again Phil. I like the contrast in #2 while the light is a bit flat in #1 but nice contrast between the orange of the rock and the blue of the sky.

          Thanks Alan
Yes- the light was variable thru the day.... some light cloud that came and went, followed by bright sun later on
Today thu (Ty 28th) it is cold + breeze+ light rain and photograhically miserable
