  • Two Trees - my copy of the classic Albert Namatjira eucalypt trees

    G'day all

The back road from Coober Pedy in central South Australia into the Pedirka Desert and Oodnadatta, takes one past the Ooglemina Creek area and these delightful trees. The horizon is 'flat-as-a-tack' as the saying goes, and the creek sees running water every few years.

    As always, feedback welcome

Hmm, I think I prefer the Namatjira works Phil, but the shape of the trees is interesting. Perhaps add some morning or evening light and some interesting mountains in the background.

I have a Namatjira hanging on my wall.

It's actually a Maurice Namatjira watercolour my wife bought on her travels before we were married. He was one of Albert's sons. It is supposed to be an original watercolour but I've never actually checked it out. Not much in the way of value as paintings go.

Namatjira wa a true gentleman and very gifted artist. He certainly had talent for painting trees. I like your image Phil, lovely interesting shapes. Just back a few steps to get the whole tree - next time you fly past.

It's a struggle out there. You have given a pictorial reminder. See any wild life. Saw next to nothing last time.

          Thanks for your comments

Alan- it's beaut to see that you have a Namatjira on the wall ... yes I have one of Oscar's paintings at home, bought in 1968 when I visited Hermansburg
Isac- yeah mate, must learn how to back away to get more into the image

Hans- bugga all wildlife, and in fact at the moment, very, very few cattle along the highway up to the Alice
