  • Those were the days- Tassie

I met Jenny in late 2002. I was 52 then and meeting her gave me a chance to start my life all over again. We were both both in the "divorcing" process, It was love at first sight so we decided that both of us starting again together was great idea. So. we packed our bags, so to speak and took off heading for sights unseen. We "House Sat" as we went, making our journey easier ending up in Tasmania were we based ourselves for the next decade.
One of my starting over things was photography and being in Tassie was a great place to be to indulge in my new found hobby. It was purely a hobby and I loved it. I took lots and lots of photos. Since then we have returned here in WA. I left behind a lot of my favourite memories when I left that beautiful island and my desire to take photos unfortunately. That's part of the reason why I'd like to share some of my pictures.

Helo Mollie and welcome to our group of happy snappers. Once you get used to the sites idiosyncracies you wil find lots of great pictures, lots of assistance and many years of experience. Been too long since Tasmania may get there again one day.

When we first hit Tassie in 2004, Jenny was the only who had been there before and I had only crossed the border of WA a couple of times, one of which was with Jenny. We drove across the same year, from Bunbury, just so she could show me the famous Bunda cliffs on the Nullarbor Plain; but that's another story.

Getting back to Tassie: Our first house sit was in a town called Forcett in the south of Tassie and east of Hobart. We stayed there for about 5 months.

The pictures I've attached are of just some of the places we visited during our stay. It was a huge "buzz" for me being a city boy, as Jenny called me, like a new life in a new world. The photos were taken on a small Hewlett Packard camera which was my first entrance into digital photography. The places/towns are Pelham, 5 Mile Beach and Copping Museum.
The photo from the museum is of a man trap. Hard to believe it was used in the days of convicts. No need for an explanation.

What wonderful shots Mollie. As a part of your learning curve you'll have to start editing a few of these to make them pop. Things like lifting the shadows and straightening the horizons. We're all here to help you when you're ready to take the plunge!
Here are 2 "fixes" that I did very quickly using Faststone Image Viewer. It's 100% free for Windows users HERE.

Thanks Wigz, I got lucky with that one. There wasn't much adjustment on my little Hewlett Packard back then. It did take some surprisingly nice shots though.

Thanks HansE, still navigating my way around, being an amateur at everything.

Still using my dinki little camera on boxing day 2004, Jenny and I visited Mt Field which is about 100k's east of Hobart but well worth the journey. It blew me away that first time; what an amazing place. So much greenery including the moss that covered the falling trees, stunning! Then was the Snow Gums and Pandani grove, none of which I'd ever seen before, at the age of 54.
