  • Approaching storm clouds

    G'day all

In the midst of heavy rain squalls, a moment of sunshine breaks through

    As always, feedback welcome

Interesting range of tones with the clouds and rays. You have done well to handle the brightness range between the sunlight clouds and the dark areas.

      G'day Alan

Metering was done from clouds at top LH corner before composing and shooting - with a tad of contrast boost in PP
Unlike our mate Isac !! I am happy for shadows to remain shadows

I'm 50/50 on shadows. I'll often boost shadows, but other times the shadows are best left alone - just depends on the image.

100 agree Phil. Even darker if you like.

You can't beat seeing this scene naturally. The brilliant white of the sunlit cloud is just not there.
Better a full bottle in front of me
      than a full frontal lobotomy.

I think the original looks better in the bright areas in it's unmodified form. You will never get the brightness of those clouds on a monitor. They sometimes make my eyes water
My very quick take without luminosity masking.

Finishes up much like yours showing up the lack of brightness range available.

Thanks Hans -- and yours retains some detail in the foreground whereas I deliberately zapped it to concentrate the viewer's attention up into the sky
