    Sunrise and a sea mist

    G'day all

    We are having some early morning sea mists enveloping the harbour, providing me with some interesting possibilities

    Here's one ...

    exif- Panny FZ-2500; 1/640s x F4,0 w- EV @ +1,0; ISO-125; lens at 2x zoom / 50mm FFequiv

    Nice shot Phil. I like the 'silence' and negative space with the sun barely shining through the mist. Soft, subtle and very nice. You could have centred the yacht at least

      Bloody fantastic image Phil, I like it just the way it is. The beauty of this shot is that it also has many possibilities for some very artistic post processing, high key B/W comes to mind.

      Sean, someone, Isac I think it was, mentioned ROT in one of your posts. This is a perfect example of ROT, the empty space on the left gives the yacht room to "sail into" (yes I know it's anchored). Centering the yacht in the frame would, IMHO, lose so much impact

        K1W1, that is exactly the same composition as the original, just with ROT lines superimposed over the image. I agree, a square crop would also work. As I said in my original comment, this image offers so much to work with.

        Bad explanation on my part. I realised that the image with the ROF was the same as the original but the ROF overlay showed me how the image would work as square by simply removing the left column. I had not thought of square until I saw the image with the overlay on it.

      Beautiful image Phil an nicely framed, however my brain wants to move the sun to the other side of the frame. Lovely tones and just the right amount of detail in the boat.

        Way too much shadow it is unrealistic. Should be like the actual shadow in the original image.

        Nothing wrong with your original image Phil. I only added the image with the overlay to show Sean how it worked IF you applied the ROT principle.

        Was the mast landing smack on the right line part of the original composition, done in PP, or, more arse than class ?

        I had nothing to do with the position of the sun, or the direction the boat was facing
