  • Launching Jetty

This is the launching jetty for the RC model boat club in our retirement village. I took this a week ago with my Canon 1Ds and I am quite happy with it.
    I don't have a boat and I don't want one as I am the club's official photographer.

Here is how they used to launch their boats before the jetty was built.

That looks to be a fair sized remote controlled boat/yacht Ray, I don't blame you for not wanting one, it could get expensive . I've always wondered are the RC yachts powered, or do they just rely on the wind? I'm guessing that they're powered or else you would see a lot of them stranded in the middle of the lake on a still day.

G'day Ray ... and Welcome Aboard

Hobbies come & go - and each of us is grabbed or not grabbed with them as we see them go past
Good to see your pics - colour, framing and detail all look good

ps- I note the camera make & model ... all okay there
a few years ago my spouse enrolled for a photojornalism by correspondence course by a Brisbane based mob - whose camera recommendation for these 'beginners' was your camera plus several F2,8 prime lenses. I was so angry that I wrote to them and pointed out that 'beginners' do not need to sell the family car to buy tools needed for a course such as that one

The sail boats are not powered and rely on wind power. The remote control works the rudder and the sails. Yes, they do get stranded and we have a rescue boat to recover them.

We also have powered boats and they are fun to watch. One of our very talented residents built this boat from scratch.

I love the pop of red in both these Ray, it really makes the difference between just a photo and a great photo.

Hi Phil, thanks for you warm welcome and kind words.

Crikey! A 1Ds is certainly not a beginner's camera and nor are f2.8 lenses. Yes, nice to have but not when you are starting out. I found a review of the 1Ds in an old camera magazine and I was gobsmacked to find out that they were $15000 when new in 2003-2003. That would have purchased a good car in those days. I was extremely fortunate to have it given to me.

          Regards, Ray.

Thanks, Isac. That's just how I process my images. My aim always is to produce images that look similar regardless of whether they were taken with a 17 year old camera or a 6 year old camera.

            Cheers,
            Ray.

Like the way the light comes through the sails. I have wanted to sail this will probably the only way it will ever happen. I was looking at a group that build battle ships that fire ball bearings and sink others. That looked like fun as well. Photography has the added advantage of being weather independant as a hobby says he as it is raining outside

Thanks again, Hanse. I have never wanted to sail - either the real thing or the RC variety.
I'll stick to photography as my hobby as it brings me great joy.

I can't afford to have two hobbies, SWMBO says so.
