These are the containers which housed the internal organs of Tutankhamun. There are amazing exhibits in the museum shame that they have not curated it wel orhave looked after the building.

Nice set of images Hans. It looks as if you have the place to yourself. Do you know if tourism is being affected by the coronavirus?

Have been getting updates. We may have our trip cut short. Noone has the virus and they tested the last people on the ship again all good. Viking has cancelled all cruises for 30 days. Since we have not as yet got onto the ship as we had weather problems flying to Luxor we don't know what they have in mind. We have at least 6 months of toilet paper at home unless our house sitter has sold it on the black market.

Glad you're safe Hans. I'm sure Viking will look after you. The prices for toilet paper online is skyrocketing. Looking back to the old days when I was on drilling rigs in the outback, we used to take old newspapers with us for when we ran out of both toilet paper AND TallyHo!

Toilet paper was 99c a roll in a Indian suburban shop in Burwood. But people are telling me there is none in their local supermarket. Would stock up on canned and frozen food myself. If you don't eat you won't need toilet paper. lol

Family business


Worlds Oldest and first stone building

The quitest it was for several visits.

I had a family business for years but quite a bit more organised than that one Hans, but the lady looks happy.
The building is still standing so they must have had good techniques back then. No lawn or gardens must contribute to the longevity.

[HansE]

When you cosidder that they find articals thousnds of years old in good condition such as Papyris scrolls. Lack of sun and rain/moisture must play a big part. The building doesn't look a 100 rears old from the front.

Just redid this one happier with it. Showing the great pyramid. It is actually the one on the left. (this time?)

All good Hans, did you photoshop the camel in?

No There were about 10 people about 50 meters to my left who took a similar picture without the camel. I walked the extra yards to get it in the frame. Be like Hans.

I thought you should be reminded of our dire situation back in Oz.

I think our reactive actions and crazy public response makes me feel a bit different than most in OZ. Why toilet paper I keep asking myself I just cant fathom it. Nearly as crazy as Trump.
Good cartoon though.

Pre sun up iso 6400 f5 at 1/125 105mm Had it on a tripod could have knocked the iso to 1600 for a bit less grain.

No idea what this is.

It was in the Christian quarters (the tip) in Cairo.

Left over from the plague days, "bring out your dead, bring out you dead".

You would not have believed this area. They built their suburb on the tip. Sorted out the rubish beneath their living quarters.

The smell was quite significant.

Would you class it as 3rd world living Hans?

[HansE]

I would class most of Egypt as third class living. We stayed in some classy hotels but a lot of the houses have been built without permission.and some are having upper stories demolished since they introduced some codes recently.

There were some great pictures to be had around the mosque and citadel but there was nowhere to pul up. I have a feeling I will not be back to plan and brave the walk on the road with the traffic.

Wonderful stories Hans with great images as well. The tip thing is a concern - not only for the smell but disease which loves to live in filth like that. Maybe a starter for something similar to CV-19?

True, shame about the pollies though. Wish we had a Keating or at least a polititian who looks as if he is doing for someone other than himself or the corporations

I liked Keating. He was tough and also a softy, had a heart of gold. Type you need to be a PM. No pollies today are tough enough, that goes for the state leaders as well. Just have a look at the piddly punishment for crims, what a laugh.

It sad but interesting to have them focus on something. At least it gives them a sense of purpose besides political survival.
