A lovely place to visit Hans. I had a lot of dealings with the Christian-Bailey family who are a large family there. They were an agency that sold and installed our large steel water tanks. Nice photos BTW. Plenty of pics to come I would guess.

Fabulous story with pics Hans. It is definitely a beautiful place. I don't think the Fletcher was the one that lead the Mutiny on the Bounty. Might be a relation though. It used to cost about $3000 to ship one of our tanks to Norfolk so yeah, freight is expensive.

You can see why it was so expensive when it would take twenty blokes to offload it. The boat is sometimes there for days before they can offload because of conditions.

That Canon 70-200 F2.8 allows for some serious cropping. It's a shame that I didn't wait to buy one so I could have had the new RF model to suit the EOS R .

Probably are related. Obviously the headstone was not made by someone who was a master of the Queens English!
There was always delays with loading and unloading because of bad weather, which added to the cost.
Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM - excellent lens, not for someone on a pension though

I did go back the next day to catch a bit more light. It sure was an impressive sight when you first see it. The thick canopy lowers light levels condiderably as well. Took a swag of images with a few good ones.

If you look at #2 and #3 #2is between the barracks and the building a bit further away. #3 is in the entrance to Gvt House in front of the Barrack entrance.

But in your defense. When the Sirius sank it put an extra 300 unintended people on the Island for which there was no food. They nearly made extinct a colony of about 200000 birds. Only a few left on a neighbouring island. I am sure they would have eaten rats if they caught them.

Great info there Hans. I'm happy that I didn't live in those times. Very hard life and it would make me very old indeed!
Here is 44 images of a model of the Sirius made by a navy man in 1937. Very intricate work.
