Religeous rites at the Ganges river.

Hope they are not burning bodies! What are the blue lights they appear to be carrying?

No they don't do this here as in some other areas like Veranasi but I didn't get much background. There was a lot of clothing caught up in the river which I presume came from deceased persons. But the river looked quite clean even pristinine at Rishekesh. As for the blue lights I have absoluetely no idea. I am in a large crowd of people on a sort of island in the river. It is like a religeous meeting with people going into the river. This takes place every night and you have pilgrims walking many miles to collect holy water to take home. I know our driver got into a bit of strife for not collecting some water for his boss.

Just finished watching a documentary of the Ganges on SBS. It felt good to recognise Rishikesh and Haridwar at the start of the Ganges A different world. The above picture was taken in Haridwar.
