Surviving fire in the outback

Thought this was a good example of how the glorious gum trees that dominate our landscape survive fire.

The eucalypts just seem to shake it off! Leaves a beaut colour over the sap wood.

Beautiful image Mick and not too bright to me. I like the dominance of the tree trunk against the pleasant background. I really must learn to not want to include everything in the shot - I would have shot the whole tree which wouldn't be nearly as effective.

You raise a good point Gabby about wanting to include 'everything' in the shot. I'm forcing myself to get in close for this kind of shot because it some how seems 'wrong' to chop of the top of the tree.

My approach is to ask myself "What exactlyam I trying to capture here" In this instance it was the burnt bark so I keep walking in till that dominates the scene. Probably started back about twenty metres and kept walking in checking the viewfinder till the bark was dominate.

And I still had to crop a little to get the desired effect.

I have viewed this photo a few times now, it seems the more I look at it the more I like it., wasn't sure at first probably because the top of the tree was missing.
