That's wonderful lighting there.
I am in 2 minds about the composition, first I wanted to look at the old house, but the tree was competing for my attention.
Then my second impression is, they are both relics of the past, both trying to outlast each other, so both deserve to sit side by side.
Its a nice image.Cheers, Brad.

Just to follow on from Ironwood's comment...this is a nice image indeed, and there's a good lesson for composition here.
Triangles, I love 'em! Get 'em into your composition anyway you can.
The house and tree do compete and that can be a problem but the tree in background sitting between them 'saves' the composition because it forms a triangle and that stops our eyes from flicking between the tree and house.
(Odd numbers = good, even numbers = bad)
Just thinking out loud here Gabby, and I'm really nitpicking ... I wonder if, with the wonderful benefit of hindsight and from the very non windy comfort of my chair, if the composition could have been improved by taking a few steps to the right thereby making the triangle stronger with the bonus of gaining seperation between that tree and the one behind it.
Not really a critique of this image but food for thought for later compositions.-----------------------------------------------------

Well P Plates, you must have held the camera steady to get that shot and I must say I think it's a keeper. Ironwood and Mick are both puting up good sugestions and I do agree with them. But sometimes rules that are broken can produce just the right image that gives a great sense of scale and a good look at everything in a large area. I first went to the house because of it's lighting (marvelous by the way) and then to the large tree. I took it all in and decided it was a great image. Well done and I think Mick's comments about triangles is well worth having a look at.I Shoot A Canon

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

Thanks Ironwood, Mick, Isac and Alan. Must say that I hadn't picked up that shape Mick - something I'm trying to train my eye to see. At this stage it has to be a strong shape for me to recognise it. I did put a radial filter around the house to draw the eye Alan but the light on the hills is natural.
