  • Part One: Anne Beadell Highway (image heavy)

I'll split this into two threads as there are about twenty images.

The track, I can't bring myself to call it a highway, starts 43 kms from Coober Pedy and runs 1300kms to Laverton.

It starts here. Vehicle is heavy with fuel for 1,700km blacktop running and enough water and food for a month, just in case.

Adrenaline starts pumping right about here and keeps pumping for the two weeks spent covering the track.

There are a few reminders along the way that things can go horribly wrong.

A minor sandstorm to get through. Stopped in the middle of it to take some snaps and fell off the roof rack. If anybody tries to tell you sand is soft don't believe them.

Where the corrugations stop the rocks start.

That's assuming you can see anything other than the track ahead.

Great camping along the way. You can catch a glimpse of the Lux top left, nearest town is Laverton a mere 600 kms away

Some beautiful light in the last few. Must have been nice to decide on a camp spot and pull up for the night, get the fire going and enjoy the stars, (and what was left of the Bourbon)

        Many birds out there?

Very nice scenery, the commentary made them even more enjoyable as I scrolled down.
I think the last one is my favourite, the lighting is great.
          Cheers, Brad.

The camping was generally superb for the entire journey but the overall lack of birdlife was quite noticeable in a lot of areas, can't remember specifically for this track. To be honest I wasn't looking too hard, except for budgies of course but it's hard to not notice the total silence when it makes it presence felt.

Wow Mick, that sign in #2 would make me do a quick U turn. Some great shots showing the isolation which I know you loved.
