  • Why I hate dawn shoots

We've had some spectacular dawn colours recently, beautiful apricot colours, which unfortunately only last a short period up this way, so you have to be ready, not looking out the door as I was. Of course the day I did decide to get up early and drive somewhere the clouds were too low on the horizon, grrrr.

A bad day with the camera is still better than a good day at work....

Still a nice picture in there Gabby, you could make a panorama out of it with crops at top and bottom.

Ahhhh Greg - you've taken the words right out of my mouth

Gabby - it'sgot the makings of a g-r-e-a-t shot .... if I may be so bold to mention

      I've taken a small liberty ~ hope it's okay...

      1- a +25% lift in saturation
2- a 3:1 crop across the part of the image that excites me (and Greg)

      What's your thoughts?
      Phil

        Thanks for the comments everyone.

Don't mind at all Phil and agree that is the best part of the image. I did go with the intent of making the mangrove the foreground not realising the tide would be in as far as it was and regretted only taking my ultra wide and not something with more zoom.

have you heard of luminosity masks or selections based on colour range? you can really accentuate those oranges in photoshop without it effecting other parts of the images. i also think the crop suggested above would work great.

where was this taken? its an awesome location!

Love that crop too. I have heard of luminosity masks and the results can be quite beautiful. But I quite like the subtle colours you have here too

Operative - yes I even have them but don't use them as often as I should, mainly to do brackets shot blends. The shot was taken at Gladstone Qld, usually ships or tugs on the horizon.

Thanks Alan - hoping to get enthused to get back there one morning when the tide is right. At present with the low tides early morning the mangrove sits in mud.
