  • Rocks of Bruny Island

Another shot from recent Tasmania trip. This one of a rock formation near the cape lighthouse at South Bruny Island

You've caught the light at the right time and maybe a bit of help from PS(I'm all for that) ... very nice, maybe a bit off the bottom?

What if there were no Hypothetical questions?
CC always welcomed, feel free to post your ideas with an edit if you have time - Thanks.

Great spot, I know it well and I like your take on it.

I toyed with the idea of cropping it, but I prefer the sort of "lead in"

There is a lot to like in this shot Elill. A beautiful light, colors and textures.

Maybe the rock is too centrally placed? Gaz suggested cropping some off the bottom. I would suggest some off from the sky. Also, the clouds are very blue. I wonder how they would look if they were a bit more grey?

One other thing caught my eye right away. Your crop at the RH and LH edges is very close, especially at the LH edge. I feel it may look better with a bit more room at these edges.

My indecision is final, I think.

Hi Charles, many thanks for this. I'll have a fiddle with it at next opportunity. I hadn't really noticed the sky colour, that is definitely something to look at.

The side crop was a decision I made when there, I might did through some of the other shots and see what I have. A little PS work might be needed otherwise

the limited colour palette is bold and beautifully enhances the rock formations.
I would be tempted to crop a little off at the bottom as Charles suggests, placing the horizon in the bottom thirds line.

Finally got around to doing a crop and changing the sky a bit, thoughts?

Nice work Elill. It's a beautiful photo with lots of drama happening in the sky and great light accentuating the rocks. In your edit though, you worked on the sky but it needs more in the water to balance the sky colour, ie: reduce the blue a bit. This is my take on it by reducing the blue in the sky and water and adding a bit to each end and cropping the water. I added a watermark for you as well (as a gift)

I quite like the more saturated look of the original, but that extra space of Isacs on the LHS does help the composition. If anything, I'd crop the sea about half way to the rocks. (But of course that would get rid of the watermark).
