  • Pano - western Qld ... in the midst of drought

    G'day all

Travelling in the back country NW of Winton today - a long bit of road, some 140km of dirt which the maps politely are annotated "DWO" ... Dry Weather Only ... and they're correct. Miserable, soft surfaced road of black soil - which I have met before after an hour's rain and it just turns to sticky slush

Anyway, stopped for a cuppa and couldn't resist shooting this pano - this is supposed to be prime cattle country
Normally I format my panos to a 3,2:1 shape, but this one is different in that I have chosen a 5:1 shape to emphasise it all

    exif- Panny G2; 14-140 @ 28mm; 1/320s x f8,0 EV +1,3; iso-100 ... 16 images stitched via Pixtra

NB- because of the super-bright cloud cover, I overexposed by 1,3EV to compensate for metering inaccuracies from the sky

    As always, feedback welcome
    Phil

I'm not a mad keen pano person, but in this case it shows the wide flat expanse in a way a normal camera format couldn't. I like it very much.

A very wide brown land. There are a lot of areas in Qld doing it tough and this pano shows it well.

Now that's flat! Don't see much of that in Tassie.

Don't think the cloudy sky has helped much in this one. Particularly with a title of drought. Almost looks like rain has been, or is not far away. However it depicts well the type of landscape typical of ouback Australia and that's something I've yet to see, apart from the view at 36000 feet!

Minimalism effective in showing the desolation and emptiness.
Quite like Greg's thoughts about the clouds...a gold sun would give a dryer feel :-)

Haven't been there, not done that.

            G'day all

yeah - some sun, golden or otherwise would be great - twas not to be on this particular day
so- "as the actress said to the bishop - maybe it will be better next time"
