  • Tackling a Local Fire

About 1km from home on a major highway, some #$#@^ stared a bush fire, very close to homes. These guys along with the ground crews had it out in about an hour. They were filling at a nearby lake and there wee 4 of them working.

When it comes to Fire Fighting, the Bell 214B is the most versatile and cost effective fire fighter in the world, and can be fitted with either the ‘Tsunami” Belly Tank or up to a 3000litre Under-slung Bucket. It can fly for 3.3 Hours, Cruise Speed 130 Knots and Max Air Speed 140 Knots (260 km/hr). It's powered with the Honeywell T55-08D – 2930 SHP Turbine.

Good clear shot Isac with just enough blur in the rotors.

Thanks Alan. A bit scary when it's close to home. These guys were treated to a huge lake less than a kilometre away and they were really quick at filling then dropping the load and then refilling.

We used to always get Elvis or one of his brothers around our area. We need way more water per drop than the Bells can provide.
Elvis is an Erickson Aircrane and can carry 9000 litres per load.
We even had the DC10s dropping around here one year. At 45,000 litres per load they are really impressive to watch but they can't hover over a farm dam like Elvis can and suck water up.

Then once Elvis and the CFA have done their thing we get VicPol on the hunt for the arsonists.
