  • Wide Loads Ahoy

    G'day all

It's most unusual to have 3x Wide-Loads under police escort on the same highway and on the same day (but each one about an hour apart). We had plenty of warning that they were approaching via the 2-way radio, where I could hear the front pilot vehicle's text as "northbound 6-point-7-metre wide load approaching... please exit the highway and park your vehicle"

Here they are ... we're in central Queensland at the moment

1)- Wide Load ... 6,7m wide bulldozer blade

    exif- Panny FZ-300; 1/800s x F4,0; ISO-100; 24x zoom / 600mm FF Equiv

2)- Wide Load ... 7,3m wide bulldozer blade

    exif- Panny FZ-300; 1/1600s x F5,6; ISO-400; 12x zoom / 300mm FF Equiv

3)- Wide Load and Highway Patrol police escort

    exif- Panny FZ-300; 1/800s x F4,0; ISO-100; 13x zoom / 330mm FF Equiv

4)- And here is the 8-metre wide bit of industrial machinery

    exif- Panny FZ-300; 1/640s x F4,0; ISO-100; 13x zoom / 330mm FF Equiv

    As always, feedback welcome
    Phil

Looks like a mine site has been on a bit of a buying spree.

They are certainly wide. I remember encountering three escorted wide loads heading in the same direction as me between Brisbane and Rocky one time, but they weren't this wide.

Great story and good shots combined Phil. It's common Australia "wide" nowadays. I used to come across these a lot when I had to travel along the Great Eastern and Great Northern Highways out of Perth.

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.
