  • Pics from our recent run across the Oodnadatta Track

    G'day all

I am finally getting around to posting some pics from our June-July run across inland South Oz and back to Adelaide. Here's a couple ...

    1) Typical view of the Track - lots of dirt and bumps and so on.

    2) Margaret Siding ruins - one of several deserted outback posts seen along the way

    3) as above

    4) as above

As always, comments & feedback welcome
    Phil

I love the Ood Phil and your images capture it perfectly. #1 is my pick.
I've traveled the Ood 3 times now and it's always an adventure First time a broken rear window and water hose ripped of the camper trailer, second time damaged to the plumbing on the off-road van, third time a huge nail through a brand new Cooper tyre (less than 2,000 k's). Favourite spot - Coward Springs.

Lovely captures Phil and well thought out images for framing. colour and detail. I love the old ruins. Plenty here in WA as well - a lot are close to Perth.

        G'day GJ + Isac

We did the track in the week leading up to the Finke River Races
Before starting out - and being in the motohome, it was "tyres down by 1/3 in PSI and on the road, speed down also by 1/3rd" ~ meaning that our cruising speed was around 60km/h +/- a bit

What surprised us was that we were the slowest vehicle on the road - some of the buggers alongside us were hitting the ton km/h and seemingly 'flat out'.
One day we passed a semi parked a few km out of William Creek - waved to the driver who was 'watering a tyre' and I radioed back to him my standard "safe travels matey"

A few minutes later his voice came across the radio "christ you bastard- slow down- ya bluddy nearly knocked me over" and a string of other things. I replied querying who was he talking about and it came back "the bluddy red 4wd screaming up behind you" and sure enough, soon I was overtaken by the red 4wd and his mate in a falcon station wagon, each doing a good 50% faster than me - therefore about 100-110km/h - and leaving a huge dust trail behind them

We caught up to them 2 hours later - stopped for something, the blokes all standing around with a beer in one hand and their ol fella in the other ... we didn't bother to wave and they passed us about 10 minutes later - same speed as before. Dickheads, absolute dickheads
