  • Frankston

I had to drop my wife at a private hospital near Frankston this morning for a minor procedure, so while she was being attended to I took the 7D II for a stroll around Frankston.

You can't walk through Frankston without seeing tatts, of tip chickens. Here's one of each.

    Under the jetty.

#3 7 shot HDR processed with Nik HDR Efex Pro2. I'm pretty happy with this image except for the halo effect on the front right hand pylon. Any advice on how to reduce the effect would be appreciated.

#4 This is a zoomed image of the previous shot, not a crop, it is a completely different image.

#6 Like all suburbs, there are areas that are not all that appealing. I processed this image to try and portray an urban wasteland feel, not sure if I succeeded.

The Pier Hotel has been a Mecca for live music since Jesus was in shorts.

Many thanks to Isac who created the action for inserting my watermark into the images seamlessly.

Thanks for the plug GJ. I love #4 under the jetty - great work. Your images are all nice and sharp and good colours. Interesting treatment on #6, I think a blue sky may lift it - but I haven't seen the original. TFS.

    HALO
With the halo effect on the pylon: Clone tool, set to darken at 50% opacity. Sample from the area next to the halo and clone down the edge. It will only clone over the very light parts. Works a treat. Another way is to select the pylon only and stretch it out to cover the halo.. Also works well but only applicable for this particular type of image, where the is a distinct area (pylon) that won't be effected by stretching it slightly.
Method 1: It's always different for different images. Easier with full sized images and you can always adjust the opacity to get it right.

Thank's Isac, I will give both of those methods a try. I think that I prefer the first method though.
I wasn't very clear in my OP, I was wanting to know how the prevent the halo effect, but your fix works quite well.

Thanks John. What's you workflow for doing an HDR image. You took 7 images, then what do you do to get the final image?

#4 the stronger of the 2 images I think. Very nice.

I also think you nailed the urban wasteland look. Could be straight out of the end of the world.

Great set of images there John, plenty of variety.
Cant really explain why, but I like the cropped version of the jetty better. Maybe it’s because my eyes don’t wander outside like they do on the wider view.

Your urban wasteland, definitely looks like it could be a movie set.
      Cheers, Brad.
