  • And they carry half-a-million tonnes each day ---

    G'day all

We're in Port Hedland at the moment, still meandering our way around WA

The other night we tagged along on the boat that collects & delivers seamen to & fro the bulk carrier ships that are in port for a day or two while loading iron ore & other stuff

These giant ships take 1/2 a million tonnes of iron ore each day of the year from Port Hedland to overseas destinations - a hellava task in anybody's book
All images then are taken from a moving boat, after dark and not under ideal photo conditions

1- one of many in the harbour, loading goes on 24-hrs a day

2- one of many seamen to come & go

3- these ships holds are 20 metres deep !! so when empty, they tower overhead

4- one of many loading facilities, just no ship there at the moment

5- damn big things they are too

    exif- Panny G2, 14-140 lens @ 45mm; 1/25s x f4,9; iso-3200

As always, feedback or questions welcome
