Another nice curve. I like the inclusion of the couple - it's so quaint that without them for me it would seem like one of those little miniature villages. They could have moved all their rubbish off the street for you - another dose of reality.

Yes true, but can you imagine what it was like in the 15th century when it was cobblestone roads, with horse and carts. Rubbish and toilet waste just thrown out the windows onto the streets.

My wife and I did one of those walkabout tours with a recorded commentry on a handset. Pretty amazing as Rye was pretty much a pirate headquarters back in those days with brothels everywhere.

Down a laneway just to the right of where the photo was taken, the 'Madames' used to advertise out the same windows their bucket waste was disposed of! Wouldn't like to be looking up there at the time!!

Eewww - the mind boggles. You visit all these beautiful palaces, churches etc and have a romantic idea of how life was. I remember a guide joking about why French perfume was the best as the palace floors were strewn with straw and used as a toilet and nobody bathed.

A town full of pirates and prostitutes! I was born in the wrong era.

Great image and perfect for b&w.

If you were born in another era Mick .... you would be dead!

I like it Greg ........ the image looks like a miniature village, as Gabby mentioned, and the B&W does work well

Thanks all, certainly an education to visit these places.

Mick I can't vouch for the pros, but if you come to Tassie I'm sure you'll find plenty of Pirates. There's a used car yard on every corner!
