Another nice curve. I like the inclusion of the couple - it's so quaint that without them for me it would seem like one of those little miniature villages. They could have moved all their rubbish off the street for you - another dose of reality.

My wife and I did one of those walkabout tours with a recorded commentry on a handset. Pretty amazing as Rye was pretty much a pirate headquarters back in those days with brothels everywhere.
Down a laneway just to the right of where the photo was taken, the 'Madames' used to advertise out the same windows their bucket waste was disposed of! Wouldn't like to be looking up there at the time!!

Eewww - the mind boggles. You visit all these beautiful palaces, churches etc and have a romantic idea of how life was. I remember a guide joking about why French perfume was the best as the palace floors were strewn with straw and used as a toilet and nobody bathed.
