  • Ian's new rig??

Hey Guys. I have no idea what this is, but saw lots of them driving around China last month.

As Ian (Lost) has been complaining about his truck a bit lately, I thought he might be interested in trading up

Yes I can see a 500km round trip on an inland graded gravel road in that being an "adventure". Just think of the photo opportunities.

I would guess it's more reliable than the stuff we are given to peddle; honestly it's becoming a non-funny joke lately

interesting bit of gear; thanks for posting

Hahaha Darren, you're naughty! Telling a truck driver it is not all about the gear, is, um, like telling a gear head it is not all about the gear

a truck is a truck to me and don't really care what it is as long as it's maintained correctly. Bosses don't really care about driver comfort and as long as the wheels go around they are happy. Seats are a big drama with me; honestly the standard seats in a base model KW are a joke. The mack seat is better but still too low for me to be comfortable. If standard truck seats were in the 4x4 the bosses have they wouldn't buy them and nor would anyone else for that matter. And don't get me started on the AC/heater control unit; what a bloody joke Mr Kenworth!!!

I'm becoming one of the more productive drivers. Last week my opposite driver and I returned a fairly rare "full card" of 19 trips for the five days/nights. My truck is #2 for loads brought into BH. There was a bit of (big) drama recently (I was like a mad fox in the chook pen) and I told the bosses in no uncertain terms to leave us (my team) alone and annoy those not pulling their weight. It seemed to have worked LO L. Would be a great job if we were given better (not newer) gear. They call it short haul LO L. What's the difference doing 12-14 hours to the mine and back a couple of times a day or doing 12-14 hours towards Brisbane or Perth.

Sorry rant over. Of course we are better off than 20 or 30 or 50 years ago, or the poor buggers driving the above gear.

Um, once you have done the 12 to 14 hours towards Perth you still have at least another 40 hours to go. So 14 hours a day on fatigue management it will take you 4 days across and 4 days back.

Seats, on average I am buying at least one a month these days at $2,400 - $2,700 a seat. It is pointless buying crap, they just don't last and they give the drivers a backache. The cost of a quality new seat is a pittance compared to a compo claim for a crook back.

rof lo l; as far as i know some trucks have done 2-4 million ks and still have the original seats. They recently did a $80k++ truck "rebuild"; new motor, rebuilt box and diffs but nothing was done for drivers. Yep some stuffed seat and faulty AC control box!!

Sooo; we have our bums in the seat for the same amount of time; even if we are not more than 222 ks from base (our trucks could not go much further than that most of the time) we do just under 900 ks a day and it's best if i don't say too much about actual time/hours LO L

if you ever get to visit Yangshuo in China, there are lots of them on the bridges along the Yulong river......they stack them high with bamboo rafts and take them back up river for the next lot of tourists to float back down. Safety restrictions don't seem to exist in China.......

, those pics bring back memories Ang. I went on a short 1/2 day cruise on the Li river, and then afterwards went on one of those bamboo rafts. Was a lot of fun. especially for my two boys.

An interesting vehicle to put it mildly. Having the exhaust fumes drift back into the cab is just a bonus I suppose.
