  • New veiwing platform Perth Airport

I went out to the new viewing platform at Perth Airport on Sunday afternoon to see what all the fuss was about. Apparently, after a few construction projects they had a heap of dirt left over so the built a platform so lovers of aircraft could be near the action of jets taking off. Free for all interested parties. I'm no expert at photographing planes whizzing by, but I thought these were reasonable. It's a pity that the take off is obscured by trees, the first you see of the the plane is when it's already off the ground.

The first 3 are Thai Airways

I thought you'd like those K1W1. It's probably made you a bit home sick EH BRO!
Yeah Pembo - it's a first for WA and it's not far from Aveley, only about 20km. The lens I used was only a 100-300 so they're pretty close.
Thanks Tim, I was actually surprised by the results.

              Thanks for that Anna,
The viewing platform is open to the public daily between 6.30am and 7.00pm (October to March) and between 7.30am and 5.30pm (April to September) and is wheelchair-accessible, with free parking.

Visitors can reach the viewing area from Dunreath Drive (the link road connecting the International and Domestic Terminals) – watch for the signed entry point approximately half way along Dunreath Drive. It's well sign posted so you won't miss it, it's at the end of the runway.

Looks like a good spot - i would try a session there earlier in teh morngin when teh light is softer, you will be surprised at how much a difference it makes, you will also get more detail on the underside of the aircraft.

#7 is a good classic composition and hence I like it.

No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.

years ago there was an second/third story out side area attached to the main terminal and that was great place to sit a watch aircraft and people coming and going. Sadly that disappeared in the name of security.

never been a fan of aircraft photos taken from the ground but yours still have an interesting aspect to them. IMO aircraft should be photographed from another aircraft but that can be an expensive hobby.
