          Cheers mate. My main goal in BW conversions is just that - to make the subject pop and have plenty of contrasty shades of grey to keep it sharp. It was just the conversion that darkened the BG. The original wasn't the best of images, but BW can sometimes put some life into average shots.

        That does pop. Where do you find the B&W adjustment layer?

          At the bottom of the layers panel, click on the "Create new fill or adjustment layer" icon and select Black and White ...
