I like the idea, maybe better in colour. Maybe more could be done with B+W conversion. Just not hitting the mark as is imo.

It has potential. How about the leaf in spot colour? How would some strong sharpening on the wood go, to bring out the textures in the wood?

I agree with inapickle's comment about getting more texture in the wood. Think it needs this, particularly in b&w. I do like the composition and simplicity of the shot.

I agree, think it has potential. Nice simple natural textures have a lot of appeal to me.
I like the BW.
I think the leaf and nail and seam are not placed in the ideal position.
I'd move the seam further right and the leaf over to the left side, possible top left thirds intersection line.

It is a good shot Glyn but I felt that the eye needed to be guided to the leaf rather than allowed to wander around the image so I added a vignette. Also ramped up the contrast in the colour version then made it slightly darker.

Might be too over the top for some but it's just a couple of ideas.

(I'm on a roll with vignettes at present lol!. Every image seems to require one, I'll get over it. )
