  • Whitegum and wildflower.

The early morning light hitting the tree caught my eye and I thought the small flowering bush vaguely mirrored the shape and form of the tree.

This was captured at Carrawine Gorge in the East Pilbara a while back. For me this image captured the serenity of the place but it might be one of those 'you had to be there' type of images. I like it anyway so thought I'd share.

I decided on a very shallow dof because I wanted the light, lines and shadows of the tree to feature and contrast with the delicate detail of the wildflower.

Sorry Mick but this doesn't do anything for me - but you like it and it brings back pleasant memories which is the most important thing.

Love it Mick. Looks like the plant in the front is aspiring to be like the tree one day ("When I grow up, I want to be..." )

Lighting and the detail vs. the evocative shape of the gum in the background is spot-on.

It does have a mini-me look lol, I like that aspect of it.

          Thanks Tim.

i love the idea and how you have done it although it maybe just too white in places

Just fiddled around with the LR (sorry Tim) adjustment brush to darken bits and pieces and to get a little more detail into the image

you be the judge Mick. EDIT: i have made the flower too muddy

I like the slightly darker flower head in your repost Ian as the original is a touch too bright, I might touch that up a little, but that aside I'm going to stick with it as is.

The tree being quite bright and the brush in front of it being dark(ish) appeals to me but I can see merit in changing the contrast in those areas.

Just a subjective call on this one.

Thanks again for taking the time as it's always appreciated.

you could always leave the flower and stem/leave in colour, or 1/2 colour and have the rest as posted

                  Hmmm...that's an interesting idea!

I have a few images where I have desaturated the colour considerably and quite like the effect.

I'll have a play and post the result later.

Still think I prefer the original but a worthwhile exercise. Full colour on the flower looked too gaudy for my liking. Done quickly..
