A great lesson in landscape composition. A compelling image.

Elizabeth came past the 'puter as I was viewing:

Elizabeth: "That's pretty. Is that yours?"

    Me: "Yes!"

Elizabeth: "That's good. You're getting better."
    Charles

My indecision is final, I think.

      Thank you Charles.

Your good wife is obviously a woman of refined taste (married to you I mean)

Great image, I really like all the layers, water, reeds etc ending in that spectacular cloud bank.

Great shot Alan. If I could offer one minor suggestion - it might be worth trying to soften off the tops of the trees, as to me they compete with the brilliant depth and texture of the clouds - it creates a sort of visual path road block to stop my eyes wanting to travel down to the foreground of the shot. It's a seriously minor thing though, great shot and lovely job with the B&W...

This image has it all really, great lines, forms, textures, a fantastic sky and lots more. I'd be tempted to add some more contrast but I have the soft touch of a lumberjack when processing b&w so probably best to ignore.

(Strange as it may seem my first thought was to note that there was no poodle precariously perched on the post, but let's not go there.)

              Great shot Alan

I particularly like the way each area of the image appears layered giving it nice depth.
              Cheers Richard !

                Thanks again.

(Mick, I thought about making 2013 a poodle free zone for me - but you, and the other ratbags, know this is unlikely to happen )
