  • Osprey at the Salt Marsh

Had a little time yesterday morning to head out and get some photos at the Marvel Salt Marsh Preserve a short drive from my house. Light was a little harsh but blunted by some thin clouds and coastal fog. The small boardwalk and viewing platform is set up not too far away from a nesting platform that has been used by the same pair of Osprey every summer since 2015, according to the placard at the preserve. These two have at least two chicks that I could see in their box.

Fabulous story in photographs David. It's great that mankind can offere a little help to nature now and then by building a safe environment - and the nesting box.

The light looks very good to me David. Nice shots. How high is the nesting platform and viewing platform. We have some poles for Ospreys to nest on but the ones I've seen are too high above ground for decent photos, and no viewing platforms.

The viewing platform and nesting platform each sit about 3m or so above the marsh. The nesting platform is about 70m away from the viewing platform.

That sounds like a good setup. The couple near me are on poles 20m or more in height and no viewing platform, so the angles are not good.
